RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) rescued a group of lost ducklings that got separated from their mother and other siblings.

According to RACC, a group of ducklings got stuck behind the automatic glass doors at the Marriott Hotel on 14th Street and Cary Street.

Concerned citizens called RACC, who collaborated with Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities to help the ducklings find their other family members.

RACC Officer Patane and Park Ranger Rick is responsible for the ducklings reunion with their family, according to RACC.

8News spoke with Christie Chipps Peters, the Director of Richmond Animal Care and Control, who shared a little more insight on the duckling rescue.

"They called us and then were like we have these baby ducklings," said Peters. "Then the story connected, that they they figured out that the mama and the other babies had been there previously. So we just connected the dots and put them all back together in the canal that was close by."

One of the employees of the Marriott put the ducks in a cardboard box until the RACC officer and the Richmond Park Ranger arrived.

The mother duck and the other siblings were in the canal waiting for the other baby ducklings.

"Once we brought the ducks down in the box," said Peters. "She [the mother duck] could hear them making noise and so she came closer, we were like this must be mom. And they went right back together. Once that was done, we just let them go and have a great day."

8News asked Peters what advice she had for dealing with situations like these.

"Leave wildlife alone, they are very good at what they are doing," Peters said. "But in this particular situation and in situations where they may be harmed or you know that we have to intervene to help them, just call animal control and we can help guide you through which direction we should go. This one was just so sweet and we were so happy to be a part of the reunion."
