NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — How do you forget that you put a knife in your shoe?
A passenger at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport did just that, and the incident put the airport on the Transportation Security Administration’s top 10 list of most unusual items detected at airport security checkpoints in 2024.
It happened back on Oct. 11. When a man walked through the metal detector at the security checkpoint, he triggered an alarm. TSA officers located a utility knife folded in a case inside the man's hiking shoe. He claimed he didn't realize it was there. Once he surrendered the knife, the TSA said he was free to catch his flight.
