VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A man was arrested Tuesday in Florida for allegedly attempting to "surf" in his pickup truck on a closed beach.
Earlier this week, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office shared footage of a driver operating his truck in the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, after having accessed the area without paying the proper tolls.
The driver also drove around a closed gate and a sign reading "Do not enter," according to the sheriff's office.
In the video, the truck can be seen driving up and down the beach — in the water — with waves slamming the side of the vehicle, and at times sloshing over the roof.
Bodycam footage later shows the suspect, identified by police as Jason Brzuszkiewicz, offering an excuse to a deputy while seated on the beach.
"It's not my fault the truck don't surf!" he tells the deputy.
Deputies are then seen placing Brzuszkiewicz in custody.
"Fantastic," one deputy can be heard saying. "That'll make the Facebook page today."
Brzuszkiewicz was charged for failing to pay an access fee to bring his vehicle on the beach, according to the sheriff's office. County records show a man by the name of Jason Brzuszkiewicz was also booked into a Volusia County jail on Wednesday, on charges of possession of a controlled substance (without a prescription) and paraphernalia.
